Knowing your Bouvier!

Bouviers are characteristicly ...calm, rational and bold. The breed has a working heritage and thrives on a close personal relationship. Bouviers can be stubborn in attempting to get their own way, training at a young age with respect for the character and natural abilities will be well worth the time and effort, for the enjoyable companionship they would provide. The Bouvier des Flandres is not, nor should it be, a dog for every family. As with other strongly protective herding breeds, they should be in a home where they would be taken seriously. This is a breed that requires extra commitment, a willingness to work with and train the dog; while the owner should have the assertiveness and confidence neccessary to gain and maintain the Bouviers respect. They are well suited to the needs and desires of many; always ready to work or play, while providing loving companionship, they seek approval and affection.
